Whakaora Matihiko

IMG_8055_edited.jpg

In 2025, Health Navigator Charitable Trust (HNCT) pioneered an exciting community-led project called Whakaora Matihiko, aimed at strengthening mental health and preventing suicide among Māori communities in Aotearoa New Zealand. This initiative, supported by the 2024 Māori Community Suicide Prevention Fund, uses digital tools and storytelling to promote wellbeing and resilience.

Project overview

Whakaora Matihiko leverages the power of digital health technology to share authentic whānau stories, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage and identity in mental wellness. The project was delivered through HNCT's WOVEN (Whānau Ora Voices of Experience Network) team and hosted on the Healthify He Puna Waiora website.
